Serene joined Asian Absolute in the summer of 2005 as a project co-ordinator. She gradually developed a focus on the marketing side of the business, and trained specifically in this area for some months, becoming a crucial member of the sales and marketing team. In August 2006 she was promoted to the position of associate marketing manager.

As a marketing specialist with a useful background in project management, Serene is an invaluable member of Asian Absolute. She puts together quotes and proposals for many of the company's clients and, in doing so, liaises with the all of the individual teams to produce informed communications. She has therefore developed strong working relationships with staff throughout both offices, and acts as a bridge between the production teams and the clients they service. Similarly, she fosters strong relationships with customers and so has developed a thorough understanding of what clients needs most commonly are. Serene also looks after aspects of Asian Absolute's website, having gained knowledge of website optimisation in order to ensure that visitors to the Asian Absolute site are able to find the services they are looking for, and responds to their enquiries when they require Asian Absolute's services. Although originally based In London, Serene now spends much of her time in China serving clients in Asia Pacific markets such as Hong Kong and Singapore.

Serene was born and brought up in Worcestershire. She spent a year in Chad as a Gap year before going to Durham University to study Chinese. A year of her degree course was spent studying at the People's University of Beijing and she has travelled to various parts of China over the years. Upon graduating, she won a scholarship to study for a further year in Taiwan, where she advanced her Chinese language skills and added study of traditional script to her existing repertoire, which had chiefly consisted of the simplified Chinese script used in mainland China. Serene, whose mother is originally from Iran, is also studying Farsi. Serene says that she enjoys her job because of the exposure to so many aspects of an exciting business that she has gained, as well as the obvious opportunity to keep up her language skills. Beyond work, she has a great interest in music, and enjoys playing her guitar and singing at folk concerts as well as being an enthusiastic karaoke singer! Serene was previously known to many clients by her maiden name, Freemantle, but became Mrs Sunderland when she married in the summer of 2006!
