Asian Absolute Beijing Marks Out a Client Base in China

Just months after obtaining WOFE (Wholly-Owned Foreign Enterprise) status for its Beijing operation, Asian Absolute has built an impressive list of local clients and looks set to continue this trend as local awareness spreads.

Since becoming a WOFE in May, Asian Absolute Beijing has been providing localisation services to local companies in China. The team has started working for a range of clients including PricewatersCoopers, 3i and the Petrotechnical Open Standards Consortium. These are typically international companies with an important presence in China, seeking localisation services that will reflect their own standards and communicate to best effect with the local market. Being able to provide high quality translations into all versions of Chinese, as well as into English, Asian Absolute is well-placed to serve this profile of client. The breadth of the Asian Absolute network is also an advantage to many clients and the agency has been asked to supply interpreters for meetings and negotiations across China, the US and Europe.

Much of the day-to-day client liaison at Asian Absolute Beijing is carried out by associate marketing manager Betsy Zhang. Betsy has a background in international business and speaks several languages, all of which contributes to her ability to identify the needs and wants of her clients effectively. She spends much of her time working with clients to develop effective solutions and often needs to raise their expectations of what can be achieved. Betsy works closely with her counterparts in London to ensure that her clients get the best of the company's services outside of China.

Betsy says "I've found that clients appreciate our team's willingness to tailor our services to their circumstances, and to put time into developing solutions to problems they face. I think this personalised approach to client service is still relatively rare in China, but it is certainly welcomed by the companies I have been dealing with."

Betsy and her team comment that the Chinese localisation market differs quite significantly to that of the UK, and the last few months have not simply been a case of transplanting the Asian Absolute model from one side of the world to the other. Unlike Europe, China has no formalised standards for quality in localisation, making it that much harder for buyers to find the best suppliers. As Asian Absolute's reputation for quality begins to spread in Beijing and Shanghai, it is clear that there is vast potential for more of the same across the rest of the country.
