Friendship Year between Korea and BritainIf you would like to exchange links, submit an article or reproduce one of the articles featured below, please contact: webmaster@asianabsolute.co.uk. Planned in accordance with an agreement between Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun and Prime Minister Tony Blair, Think Korea 2006 is an exciting programme of Korean events taking place in Britain this year. This cultural event marks a friendship year between Korea and Britain, which aims to enhance cultural exchange and understanding between the two countries. Think Korea 2006 was launched at the Asia House in London on Thursday 23rd February. Events celebrating traditional Korean culture, art and technology will be held in Britain throughout 2006. In turn, Britain will host a variety of events in Korea next year. Since the number of Koreans visiting Britain far exceeds that of British citizens who visit Korea, it is hoped Think Korea 2006 will help even out this imbalance and inspire British people to acquire an interest in Korea. Think Korea events for September include spectacular performances of traditional Korean song, dance, and music by the Korean-based CFNMK Performing Arts Group in London and Manchester. There will also be a British-Korean Students' Competition held at Bloomsbury Theatre on 11-12th September. The friendship year between Korea and Britain will culminate in a gala event of traditional Korean performances at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music and Croydon's Fairfield Hall in December.
