Staff Profile - Robin Sun, Beijing translation managerRobin Sun began work as an in-house editor at Asian Absolute in 2004 and was promoted to translation manager, heading up the Chinese language team in Beijing, in June 2006. Robin has been an integral member of the Asian Absolute Chinese language team since the Beijing office opened. As translation manager, he runs the in-house team of translators and editors, as well as managing the large numbers of Chinese freelance specialists with whom the team works. He has strong working relationships with the project managers and DTP team who integrate his team’s translation works into the large multilingual localisation projects regularly handled by Asian Absolute. As translation manager, ultimately responsible for quality control on all Chinese language work, Robin has developed a keen eye for detail and a flair for stylising texts to their specific purpose. Much of the Chinese language work produced by Asian Absolute has had direct input from Robin. Robin originally comes from Shandong Province on the East coast of China, but has lived in Beijing since going to Beijing Foreign Studies University to study for a degree in English and American literature. Upon graduating, Robin joined a music publishing house in Beijing, where he worked for three years as an editor on a range of publications about Chinese and Western music. During his time as a translator and editor, Robin translated two music dictionaries from English for Chinese readers. He also worked for a time on a local entertainment magazine before beginning work at Asian Absolute. Robin says it has been fascinating to work for Asian Absolute as the Beijing office has developed – he has seen not only the team around him grow, but the company’s client base grow larger and more diverse, and he says he is proud to have been part of this growth. Robin is a big fan of the arts, and reads widely as well as taking a great interest in cinema from around the world. He has also taken up tennis and badminton, although claims still to be a novice in both!
