Keeping Pace with Asia’s Largest Dragon: Asian Absolute Beijing Expands

The phenomenal growth in China’s economic fortunes is mirrored in the real estate projects springing up across the country. The need for quality office space has never been higher, and the skylines of the country’s cities are being dramatically altered as companies, both foreign and local, vie for prestige office space.

Take Asian Absolute, a specialised UK-based provider of high quality Asian language translation – established in the UK in 2000, the company first established a presence in Beijing in 2004. Barely a year later, by early 2005, the company’s China operations had outgrown their existing office space, and they moved into a larger, high-tech office in SOHO New Town, in Beijing’s prestigious Chaoyang district.

Chaoyang, Beijing’s vast business district on the city’s Eastern side, is the location of choice for foreign enterprises. With an area of over 47,000 square kilometres and a population of more than 2.5 million people, it represents just under half of Beijing’s urban area and is home to most of China’s diplomatic missions, as well as the sports complex for the forthcoming 2008 Olympics. Such is its allure that a current saying goes, anyone who owns a piece of Chaoyang holds the future in his hands.

The SOHO New Town complex is typical of developments in the district - built in 1998 as a modern office, residential and retail shopping complex, it offers flexible, multi-function living and working areas in the heart of the Central Business District – perfect for fast-growing businesses such as Asian Absolute. The company has taken full advantage of this: their team of 20 staff commute from all parts of Beijing, mainly by car or on the city’s cheap and efficient underground network, and are able to work closely with their London colleagues thanks to SOHO’s state-of-the-art technology. These capabilities may seem mundane, but they are symptomatic of the quantum leap forward that business in China is undergoing.

Says Xiaozhou Zhan, Chief Representative of Asian Absolute’s Beijing operation: “We are excited to be at the heart of Beijing’s business district here in Chaoyang, with distinguished neighbours such as Microsoft, HSBC and many others. The latest office move is a reflection of the business we are attracting, and I am sure it will not be long before we once again need more office space.”
