Asian Absolute Managing Director Appointed Vice-Chair of Association of Translation CompaniesHenry Clough, Asian Absolute's founder and managing director, has this month been elected to the position of vice-chair of the Association of Translation Companies. He will provide support to the chairperson Liz Robertson, a well-known figure in the translation world who also serves as chair of the UK body's continental counterpart, the EUATC. The Association of Translation Companies is a professional body which represents the interests of translation companies, as well as purchasers seeking impartial advice on the procurement of language services. The Association is concerned with good practice in the industry, offering accreditation to reputable translation companies around the world and operating an ethics committee which upholds the Association's Code of Conduct and considers issues of business practice; the council guides the organisation in these matters. The Association also liaises with national and international authorities on matters which affect the industry, and so it is a distinct advantage if its officers possess experience of representing business interests and negotiating internationally. Henry joins the committee with a wealth of experience in the translation industry and of business management throughout the world. He will sit alongside a range of distinguished professionals in the language business and brings a new Asian dimension to the organisation. This will no doubt be valuable to the Association as business with Asia hots up and ATC members see a greater take-up of localisation services for China, Japan, Korea and neighbouring regions. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Henry founded Asian Absolute in 2000 and has since developed teams in London and Beijing to make the company a unique and well-known member of the localisation community. In addition to his Asian expertise he brings to the association a good rapport with many of its members, a number of whom regularly cooperate with Asian Absolute. Henry says that he is looking forward to the challenge of serving on the ATC council and sees it as an important opportunity for Asian Absolute to give something back. "I am honoured to have been invited to take up this position. I know how important the Association is to its members and the public, and have personally benefited greatly from the ATC's support over the years. I hope that my experience and knowledge will in turn prove useful to others." 19 October 2006 For further information and supporting photos, please contact press@asianabsolute.co.uk
